Flowers and butterflies . . .

. . . on the book some of whose pix got lost while uploading yesterday.  What a contrived link!  Sorry.  Here's the stitching on the spine, using a fine perlé thread.

And now the flowers, that have grown a bit since the last Spring pix.  I've arranged them in a sort of sequence of colour.  It is quite amazing how many gradations there are in colours.  I suppose really it just goes in a continuous shading, not in separatable steps!

I like the shadows on the wall
and the shape of these pointy tulips
contrasted with the blunt curves of these primroses
and the small round bell-shaped blobs of the grape hyacinths.
This horse chestnut has been growing for 4 years, I think.  It needs a proper home somewhere, out of its pot.

Tulip time, hooray . . .

. . . . because I do love tulips! And irises and bluebells and quite a few other things! It's a wonderful journey of discovery finding out what is there in our garden as things begin to show themselves now. Our friend who lived here before us had some lovely ideas about planting. Having only been here since June we keep having nice surprises.

These pix will have to keep you going for the next 2 weeks as we are off to Scotland and the Lake District.

Mothers' Day and Amaryllis

Mothers' day flowers from eldest daughter, who called round with her three daughters bearing a card, a jam sponge cake and these lovely and unusual tulips:

rivalling for a while our only double amaryllis:
'Apple blossom' is a good name for this colour: Seven out of the 8 plants with flowers this year. (The ninth is a baby and had no flower)
